El título hace referencia a las regiones donde los Tarahumaras habitan; esto significa lugares no muy adecuadas para la agricultura además de climas extremos. Mientras pintaba, su mirada me hacía pensar en lo difícil que es su vida, sin verdaderos apoyos gubernamentales; sin embargo ellos siguen luchando por sobrevivir y guardar sus costumbres en las increíbles barrancas y parajes de la Sierra. La sequía y el hambre han logrado que alrededor de 50 Rarámuris -que sepamos, decidieran saltar al vacío para suicidarse al no poder cumplir la manutención de su familia que es sagrada en su cultura. Actualmente su situación es muy difícil, y no sólo la de ellos sino de todas las etnias del país. Trato de hacerlos vivir en las pinturas, para que no sean olvidados. Para recordarnos lo que realmente importa en la vida, ya que eso es lo que he sentido cuando estoy con ellos. Su presencia es magnífica; su fuerza y fragilidad, sus ilusiones y realidades, su bondad y tristeza, todo expresado en una sola mirada.

The title makes allusion to the regions where Tarahumara people live, rough areas not very suited for agriculture and with extreme weather. As I was painting it, his eyelook made me think on how harsh their existence is, hardly without any government support at all, and yet they keep struggling to survive and to keep their traditions alive in the beautiful mountains and surroundings of the Sierra. The drought and hunger made 50 Rarámuri people -that we know of- jump from cliffs to commit suicide. Their situation is very difficult, and not only theirs, all ethnic groups have not an easy way of life. I try to make them live through the paintings, so that they are not forgotten. To remind us of the things that really matter in life, as this is how I've felt when being with them. They are imbued into this magnific presence, their strength and fragility, their illusions and harsh realities, their kindness and sadness, everything being said when they stare at you.
